It is found in the western half of the Palearctic ecozone.The wingspan is 24-28 mm. There is one generation per year with adults on wing from June to AugustThe larvae feed on various lichen species on rocks and wooden poles. Larvae are found from August to Juni. The species overwinters in the larval stage. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
