Election & Electoral Violence in Nigeria:A case of the fourth republic

Nigeria's electoral politics has been marred by violence and irregularities in escalating proporions.The 2011 elections is adjudged free and credible, nevertheless, it was still characterized by violence that has become part of Nigeria's electoral culture with serious implications on the sustenance of Nigeria's democratic experience.The book examines the causes of electoral violence and identifies the high remuneration of political office holders, the culture of impunity in the Nigerian society, ethnicity,religion and the zoning debate as the current incentives for violence in Nigeria's fourth republic. It concludes that, there should be a reversal of the lopsided remuneration of political office holders,enactment of stringent laws to deter acts of election violence and Nigeria's electoral body,INEC should design frameworks for documenting verified cases of electoral violence and identifying perpetrators. The book will be a vital reference text for policy makers, individuals, government agencies,NGO's, international organizations, think tanks and the civil society community who are interested in the dynamics of election and violence in Nigeria.
