Electrokinetics Of Water and Soft Drinks Across Urinary Bladder Membranes

Hydrodynamic and electro-osmotic permeability of aqua guard water, aquafina water, mountaindew, mirinda, pepsi and thumsup have been measured across urinary bladder membranes. It has been found that different coloured substances (cold drinks) are adsorbed on the surface of bladder membranes and their surfaces lose their elastic properties. 1.which is a measure of effective pressure and 2 the polarizability of membrane have been computed for all the permeants. Increase of 1 gives same information as decrease of 2. It has been found that thumsup produces maximum effect on the bladder surface as compared to other permeants. In efficient functioning of bladder may lead to stasis of urine. As a result, chances of formation of stones in the kidney, ureter and urinary bladder cannot be ruled out.

Dr.Prem Chandra Shukla (born in 1946) has obtained his M.Sc.and Ph.D Degree in Physical chemistry in 1966 and 1971 respectively. He has authored over 50 research papers in reputed National and International Journals. His current interest relates to Biological membranes and their interaction with electrolytic and non-electrolytic solutions.
