Flowers speak millions of unspoken words. No wonder they are there on almost every occasion. From birth to death in religious ceremonies, festivals, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, receptions, flowers are there to convey profound human feelings. A new demand driven trend for growing new cut flowers is increasing in the international market besides domestic front, often referred to as emerging cut flowers, which are less known and grown in small pockets, having high prospects in florist trade. A number of such cut flowers have been recognized and adapted to local conditions by a number of countries. Some of these cut flowers hold promise for the development of floriculture in Indian subcontinent are Lisianthus, Heliconia, Calla Lily, Salidago, Bird-of-Paradise and Ornamental Ginger. The aim of this book is to acquaint flower growers particularly interested in growing these crops and also amateur gardeners with latest information on cultivation techniques and varieties.

Born in 1961, Dr. M. Kannan,working as a professor of Horticulture at TNAU,Coimbatore,India. He has 27 years of experience in the field of Horticultural research, education and extension activities.
