ENDODONTIC IRRIGANT

The ultimate objective of endodontic treatment is the elimination of debris, necrotic pulp tissue and bacteria from within the root canal system, which could serve as sources of infection and inflammation. For complete disinfection of root canal, chemical debridement in the form of irrigation is a must in combination with mechanical instrumentation. It is easily understandable that for proper canal debridement and for complete effectiveness of irrigant solution, canal should be well instrumented and prepared to a sufficient taper. Each irrigant solution has its own distinct properties. When selected correctly according to their indications, each irrigant proves valuable. Detailed understanding of the mode of action of various available solutions is important for optimal irrigation .New developments in the composition of the irrigating solutions and mechanical devices used for effective delivery of the solution in complex areas of the root canal system will help to advance safe and effective irrigation .This book reviews the potential irrigants with their advantages and limitation along with their future in endodontic irrigation
