In June 2000, the German Government and the Germanelectricity supply industry signed the ?Consensus of Opting out ofNuclear Energy?. This agreement has the objective to phase outnuclear power plants and to replace nuclear power with anincreasing share of renewables, promoting energy efficiency andenergy saving.
