For the last few years researchers in business administration have increasingly become aware of the central role of small and medium enterprises for the prosperity of an economy. As a consequence, entrepeneurship has grown a most relevant sub-discipline in business administration. This special issue focuses on the specific problems in the field of finance that are essential for small and medium enterprises.
