#EP2014: A digital socialist campaign
Details
This book attempts to explore the use of digital media in the European election campaign of May 2014. After studying the European digital landscape, the author delves into the example of the Socialist Party campaign. In response to a difficult context of growing Euroscepticism, the PS worked to develop a European debate in France, through a permanent activity on social networks and by establishing a digital platform for questioning citizens. In light of the election results, he criticizes the use of the Web in politics, its effectiveness and its methods of action, through the failure of the socialist campaign. A formidable mobilization tool, the Web struggles to impose itself as a political communication tool. Nevertheless, it seems obvious that the increased use of the Web at the European level has allowed the emergence of a European public space during the campaign, through the political events of the campaign and their diffusion thanks to the network. The Web thus appears to be a platform of the future for Europe, whose political potential has not yet been fully exploited by its users.
