It is found in almost all of Europe, as well as the eastern Palearctic ecozone and the Near East. The wingspan is 15-20 mm. Adults are on wing from May to June.The larvae feed on Tussilago farfara, Petasites fragans and Arctium lappa They initially feed in the roots, but later in the flower stems.A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
