Type 2 diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in many developed and developing countries. Diabetes will be one of the major threats to human health in the 21st century. The present volume is focused on the prevalence of diabetes and associated risk factors among the Indian populations. This book present and discusses the new diagnostic criteria and classification of diabetes. A brief review on the prevalence and its association with other risk factors are discussed with world and Indian populations. India being multi-ethnic and multi-lingual, as castes, sub castes and tribes is separated by different degrees of cultural variations and characterized by the rule of endogamy. Hence, there is a dire need to have a data on endogamous populations to understand the prevalence of type 2 diabetes and its associated risk factors.
