Eradicating poverty

The "eradication of poverty" is one of the main objectives of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, which took place in Rio de Janeiro from June 20 to 22, 2012. We can put an end to extreme poverty in our lifetime. Since 1990, the number of people living in extreme poverty on Earth has been halved. But there are still 767 million people living on less than $1.90 a day. Governments have pledged to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger by 2030. Agricultural investment has been and still is an effective approach. But it is not the only one. The FAO puts the fight against rural poverty in a broader perspective. Wealth is the value of all the assets held (patrimony) by an economic agent (household, individual, nation, etc.), which can either be generated by income or capital gains, or acquired by bequest or donation. This manuscript aims to provide an overview of poverty, poverty solutions and wealth.
