Erosion processes, sediment transport, and silting of dams in Morocco

The Oued Inaouène watershed, which is highly susceptible to erosion, plays a crucial role in the silting up of the Idriss 1er dam. The solid inputs caused mainly during floods jeopardize the storage capacity and lifespan of this structure. The aim of this research is to examine the phenomenon of silting in Morocco, focusing on the Idriss 1er dam, quantify the basin's hydrosedimentary balance and suggest appropriate solutions. Despite the anti-erosion measures put in place by the High Commission for Water and Forests, the results remain insufficient. It is therefore essential to consider complementary curative actions to slow down this process. The temporal evolution of the sedimentation rate underlines the need for a unified strategy to preserve the soil and protect the hydraulic infrastructure.
