ESL High School Students' Experiences
Details
Because of the various cultures and language speakers present in today's classrooms, there is an urgent need to explore the integration of local ethnic minorities into the school environment. Unfortunately, despite the increasing number of immigrants arriving in Canada, there has been a decrease in educational budgets for English as a Second Language (ESL) programs and instruction. This book explores how the recent diverse population change is recognized in our educational system through the views of immigrant students and their teachers.Alternative approaches to traditional mainstream or pull-out classes and innovative teaching methodologies are identified to help the integration of ESL students into the Canadian education system and society. This book is beneficial to schools, school boards and ministries of education, administrators, curricula developers,as well as educators and pedagogues interested in minority and inclusive education.Findings also of particular interest to researchers in educational paradigm shifts.Newcomer families would also benefit in finding out ways to ease the integration of their children into the Canadian school system.
