Essays on English and Applied Linguistics

This compilation of essays is the product of the author's work towards her MPhil degree in English and Applied Linguistics at Cambridge University, UK. The collection contains theoretical essays on various aspects of English, including discourse analysis, orthography, syntax and semantics, as well as essays on applied linguistics, covering issues in language acquisition and psychology of language learning. Two research essays explore the differences between English and Macedonian, and as such, add value to the volume. One of them is a contrastive study of double negation in English and Macedonian, whereas the other one is a study of the acquisition of English WH-movement by Macedonian learners of English. The volume would appeal to anyone with an interest in English, applied linguistics or contrastive studies.

Sonja Kitanovska-Kimovska is a translator and lecturer. Sonja holds an MPhil degree in English and Applied Linguistics from Cambridge University, UK, and a PhD in Translation from UKIM, Skopje. Her research interests include English, translation and style, translator training and assessment. She is the author of a number of academic papers.
