Essential oils: composition, properties and extraction

With regard to molecular diversity, scientific research is focused on plant compounds for use in phytopharmaceuticals. Natural molecules from plants are considered to be a very important source of medicines; more than 120 compounds from plants are used in modern medicine today and about 75% of them are applied according to their traditional use. Indeed, plants are both a finished product for consumption and a raw material for obtaining active substances (Bérubé. 2006).
