Ethnomedical Uses of Earthworm
Details
Currently available drugs / therapies for diseases are always associated with side effects. Hence, search for a drug in natural resources with low cost, more active and without side effect is needed. In recent scientific investigations, attention has been drawn to the health promoting activity of animal, animal products and their active components. Earthworms are soil macro-invertebrate oligochaete annelid, playing an important role in the sustainability of soil and productivity. Lampito mauritii (kinberg) is a well known indigenous earthworm with various traditional medicinal values. In this book, all of them from our research work, have been discussed on the antioxidant, anti-Inflammatory, antipyretic, hepatoprotective, antiulceral and antimicrobial effects of earthworm extracts and paste of L. mauritii by in-vitro and in-vivo methods. This book can be used as an under and post graduate text / reference book in Zoology, Life science and Pharmacology and also be useful to researchers who are concerned with ethromedicine and earthworm pharmacology. I am to grateful to authorities of AU for their great permission to write this book and all helps I received in my service
