Ethnomedicine for eye diseases

Use of folk medicine continues to the present day in many societies and cultures with many plants still in use. Eyes are windows to the outside world. The visual system provides us with a tremendous amount of information about our environment. Millions of people have problems with their eyes. This book depicts 322 plant species used against eye diseases along with their preparation, mode of administration and chemical constitution. Herbal medicine is making a dramatic come back and scientists are turning to natural products for answer to various ailments. Consequently, the therapeutic properties of higher plants offer a virtually untapped reservoir of potentially useful sources of drugs that will continue to serve mankind in this century as they have done since the dawn of history. Folklore knowledge of medicinal plants has significantly contributed in discovering many important drugs of modern system of medicine. Prof. T.V.V.Seetharami Reddi has more than 3 decades of teaching and research experience in the Dept. of Botany, Andhra University and guided 13 Ph.D. and 34 M.Phils. and published150 papers.
