Eudragit RS 100 microspheres of a topical antifungal drug

Therapeutic efficacy of an azole antifungal agent, ketoconazole depends on its ability to alter the turnover rate of the epidermal layer to shed off the living fungi from the skin surface. Improving the skin retention time through fabrication of controlled release microspheres with Eudragit RS 100 seems to be a very promising approach in the management of C. albicans infection. The microspheres can be loaded on to a adhesive tape and applied to the infected area of the skin for a period of 10 days for maximum anti-fungal activity without eliciting any systemic action. The novel dosage form is expected to have wide patient acceptance.
