Euphemism in Political Discourse

Euphemism is one of the figures of speech by which the speaker tries to hide the exact nature of an unpleasant idea or thing by giving it another inoffensive name. Euphemism, as a language phenomenon, is initially acknowledged as a rhetorical device and coped with as one of the categories of figures of speech, by which the writers, poets and scholars decorate their writing styles and texts. They interpret euphemism as a sort of personal ability and used it to disguise the unpleasant ideas. Politics is the sphere of life which entered into the world of euphemism with the same intensity as other spheres, such as sexuality, health, ageing, etc. The use of euphemism in politics is marked by choosing alternative expressions in place of unpleasant ones, which may give offence to the audience. I hope this book will be of great benefit for those who are interested in the area of language and politics.
