Evaluation of "Operation Rudi Nyumbani Resettlement Program"-Kenya
Details
This insightful and informative book comes at the back drop of Kenya's post-election violence that occurred in 2007-2008, which brought the country to a brink of a civil war. It takes a comparative analysis of the success of the Operation Rudi Nyumbani resettlement program of Kenya (2009) in light of the Rwandan resettlement program (1997-1999) that was considered unsuccessful and the successful Sierra Leone (2000-2004) resettlement and repatriation program. The book exposes how the program failed to apply durable solutions recommended by the United Nation Human Rights Commission and ignored fundamental community development principles of practice which are essential for successful humanitarian and development projects. Further, it analyses how the resettlement program was not carried out in a just and dignified manner acceptable by international instruments on IDPs resettlement and reintegration, rather it perpetrated human rights abuses against IDPs. The writer recommends that success of any community development project depends on an enabling environment that allows the community to freely participate in the development initiative.
