Evaluation of Scorpion Sting Envenomation in Children and its prognost

In Egypt, scorpion envenomation is a serious problem especially in rural areas of Upper Egypt. It represents a major cause of morbidity and mortality especially among young children. In the region of Assiut, in the South of Egypt, the annual incidence and mortality by scorpion stings are respectively 88 and 5.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. So, the aim of this study is to evaluate demographic data, clinical manifestations, laboratory investigations, treatment and the prognostic indicators of the affected children The present work is a prospective hospital based study of scorpion sting envenomation patients. This study was performed on 50 children with history of scorpion sting who were presented to Assiut university hospital for children from the first of August 2011 to the first of February 2012. Their ages ranged between 1-15 years old. Both sexes of children were included in the study.
