Details

This book presents the result of a study on voice
over IP (VoIP) handoff schemes between wireless
local area networks (WLANs) and cellular networks.
Interest in this study arises from the proliferation
of WLANs in the corporate environment and the
emergence of new set of cell phones that can operate
in both the cellular network and the WLAN. The focus
on this study is on how to allow a voice call
established when a user is in a WLAN to be handed
off to the cellular network when the user moves
outside the limits of the WLAN without dropping the
call. Similarly, a call established when a user is
in cellular network and enters a corporate
environment with no cellular coverage will be handed
off to the WLAN to avoid disruption of the call. The
Hybrid Coupling Scheme is presented in the book in
addition to known methodologies.
