The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland is the Lutheran national church and the largest church of Finland. The church professes the Lutheran branch of Christianity, and is a member of the Porvoo Communion. As of the end of 2008, 80.6% of the Finns were members of the church[3]. With slightly under 4.3 million members, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland is one of the largest Lutheran churches in the world. The head of the church is the Archbishop of Turku, currently Jukka Paarma. Roughly a half (47%) of Finns pray at least once a month. Most children are baptized and have confirmation at the age of 15. Nearly all funerals are Christian. In Nordic countries, it is more usual to pray privately or with family; most people go to church only on special occasions such as Christmas and weddings.
