Evidence Based Practices for BOSS Teaching

Classroom management and discipline problems have reached crisis proportions, yet most teachers do not embrace evidence-based practices for effective management. Instead, most teachers continue to utilize ineffective punishment-based strategies that only make matters worse. John Maag has has referred to this ineffective teacher practice as "paradigm paralysis." This book shows teachers how to "undo" this paradigm paralysis. It not only discusses effective management and discipline procedures, it describes BOSS Teaching which is a step-by-step procedure for insuring effective classroom management, discipline, and motivation. The contents of this book also investigate related developmental factors, deviant and disruptive childhood disorders, and bullying. A number of teacher reflections are provided to illustrate the positive effects of BOSS Teaching. Peter Ross has worked extensively with teachers, students, and parents for over 25 years as a school psychologist and professor at Mercer University. Recognizing the continuing struggles of teachers with student discipline, Dr. Ross developed the BOSS evidence-based program for effectively managing and motivating students in the classroom.
