The process of many engineering systems results in the production of heat. This may cause overheating and leads to failure of the system. To maintain the system at steady state condition, the heat generated within the system must be dissipated to its surroundings in order to keep the system at its recommended working temperatures to perform consistently and efficiently. The devices such as transformers, refrigerators, boiler super heater tubes, condenser coils, electronic components, compressors and air cooled engines etc., use thin strips of metal called fins which are used to dissipate the heat to the surroundings.
