Exploring Environmental Wellness: Residential Area Near Pullu Kole

The Kole wetlands of Kerala are an unique ecosystem that lies between the Chalakkudy river in Thrissur and the Bharathapuzha river in Malappuram District. The major activity in and around is paddy cultivation. The uncontrolled excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers has created tremendous adverse effects on the ecosystem. Pullu Kole land is one of the largest Kole lands in Thrissur. As it is a large dispersing area with human habitation all around, the residential area will be always susceptible to pollution. The study investigated the physical, chemical, and biological parameters of well water and soil near the residential area of the Kole land. All parameters were analyzed using standard methods and results have been compared with BIS (2010) and CCME (1999) standards for water and soil respectively study strongly indicates a potentially dangerous situation that requires immediate attention and action. According to the present status, it is recommended that the drinking water should periodically test and monitoring is necessary to ensure that our water resources meet the standard of drinking water.
