Failure Analysis of GFRP Pipes Under Ring Loading Conditions

Composite pipes present several advantages over metallic ones in many industrial applications. However, the lack of a comprehensive understanding of their failure in both short- and long-term scopes leads to over design, long and expensive certification tests. This work aims at evaluating the ability of numerical procedures to properly simulate composite pipe's behavior and so, promoting a discussion on incorporation of these analysis procedures on the development and test of these structures.

Hugo Faria is, since 2003, researcher in the Composite Materials and Structures Research Unit at INEGI. He has been continuously conducting several pre-industrial product development projects and fundamental research projects. His main research interests are composites monitoring and process modelling in filament winding related applications.
