Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

Author investigates the fundamental concept of the failure modes and effects analysis and discusses the facts that a road to success for a system analysis is the determination of the system reliability and identification of the level of the risk priority number. Thereafter, author prepares a deep review of the subject and studies nine cases on the topic of Failure modes and effects analysis. Author reviews failure modes and effects analysis and its extensions such as fuzzy FMEA, combined use of FMEA and AHP, FMEA and DEA, automated multi failures FMEA, incorporation of FMEA, AHP and six-sigma in decision making and other extensions of FMEA. In addition to that, cases covering topics of: (1) FMEA and knowledge modeling, (2) Chemical and volume control with FMEA, (3) FMEA and Fuzzy logic in diesel engine design, (4) FMEA and expert systems use in 3P and 6R mechanical robots reliability and quality enhancements, (5) FMEA and GPS, (6) the use of FMEA and FAHP on the risk evaluation of green components to hazardous substances are also reviewed.
