Details

The past forty years has been a time of great change
in the history of the Catholic Church, including the
educational role of the family. In the Vatican II
document Lumen Gentium, the family is described as a domestic church where all are called upon to
actively and responsibly work for the common good, to
return to religious traditions in the home, and to
care for the marginalized in one s family and
community. FAMILIAS EN LA LUCHA examines what it can
mean to journey with Roman Catholic Hispanic families
living in New York City from the perspective of a
parish religious educator. The case study method is
used to probe the lived experience of Hispanic
families as religious educators, and the role of the
parish religious educator seeking to journey with
families. This book provides thick descriptions and
portraits of the families, parish religious educators
and faith communities to highlight myths,
contemporary challenges and emerging opportunities.
FAMILIAS EN LA LUCHA is a valuable resource for
religious educators engaged in family ministry and
catechesis in homes and parishes as well as those in
colleges, dioceses and parishes who are preparing
leaders to work with families.
