Family and Systemic Psychotherapy

The family as a system gave birth to family therapy. The family is considered as a system; in his approach, the family therapist looks at the family system and takes into account all the family members and their relationships. The family therapist will work on the relationships of the family members to bring about the change that is the goal of the therapeutic process. Family psychotherapies appeared in the United States in the 1950s. The members of the Palo Alto school were the first to propose family therapy, initially aimed at the families of schizophrenic patients. This technique was later extended to other types of families and pathologies, under the general name of systemic family therapy. The systemic approach considers that the individual is part of a system, or even of several systems. And that he is influenced in his way of being by himself as well as by others and his environment.
