Fantasies of Licorice

The flowering plant Glycyrrhiza glabra, which belongs to the Fabaceae family of beans, is known by its common name, licorice. Its root can be used to make a flavoring that is sweet and aromatic. Extracts of licorice have been utilized in traditional medicine and herbalism. It is not botanically connected to fennel or anise, which are also producers of flavoring chemicals. In various West Asian and European nations, licorice is used as a flavoring in candies and tobacco.
