Female Faculty Experiences in the New Millennium:
Trends in Teaching, Research, Service, and Job
Satisfaction, 1993-2004 explores the experiences of
female faculty at the start of the millennium. This
timely study compares women s experiences with those
of their male counterparts, not only in demographic
terms but in productivity (particularly in how
research and teaching duties are divided) and
overall job satisfaction. Dr. Ali explores several
compelling areas of interest: Salary gaps between genders Faculty thoughts on institutional climates Variations in productivity and job
satisfaction across disciplines Differences in the amount of time devoted to
research versus teaching
Also discussed are recommendations for improving the
employment status and productivity of female
faculty, including equitable policies for part-time
female faculty; fair evaluation of tenure, promotion
and hiring; required training for research funding
and productivity; and a broadened definition of
scholarship.
