Feminism and its African conception
Details
Feminism expresses complex and constantly evolving forms of social and political struggle, which vary according to their geopolitical context, and which can be militant or institutional, subversive or more consensual. These multiple struggles nevertheless have in common the fight for equality and emancipation, the liberation from dependencies and stereotypes, and the rupture with the relations of domination. In many countries and regions of the world, the resurgence of social, traditional and religious conservatism is a great danger. Women continue to be victims of violence and discrimination. We are even witnessing sometimes real backward steps, especially in terms of access to rights for women. The struggles concern all women in the world but in Africa, it does not have the same echo as in the West because African feminism is fully marked by the specificities of the continent, which make African feminism a particular kind of feminism.
