This book was first published in Russian in 1983. The first edition was translated into Spanish and Japanese. The second Russian edition, published in 1995, has now been translated into English. The English edition was enlarged, improved and supplemented by the authors themselves. The book became more contemporary, some chapters were completely rewritten, and a lot of improvements and additions were made.

First English edition of a well-known Russian textbook, enlarged, improved, and supplemented. The current understanding of the physical nature of ferroelectric phenomena is presented in a consistent and logical form using both phenomenological and microscopic approaches.
