Fire in Naturally Ventilated Building
Details
Naturally Ventilated Buildings have been in existence for a long time. After buildings started to get mechanically ventilated, there were concerns of energy consumption which have brought a renewed focus on using Natural Ventilation. This natural ventilation done in buildings with new designs can go against the principles of compartmentalisation which is the basis of the prescriptive fire codes. This book explains the effect of a fire in some typologies of naturally ventilated buildings which has been calculated using computer simulation. This book can be a good starting point for anyone who is beginning research in the area of fire spread in buildings as there will be plenty of naturally ventilated buildings which can be studied. This book also provides a basic peek into the computer simulation which is a very potent tool in pre-empting the disasters that can happen in buildings due to fire. This book is also an advocate of a shift that requires to be made in fire codes which need to move from prescriptive to performance-based.
