The first part presents the historical development, basic principles, and key photophysical processes of fluorescence spectroscopy, along with various biological applications of this technique. The second part reviews the historical development of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), describes a typical atomic system exhibiting paramagnetism, and discusses the basic principles and applications of EPR in both biological and chemical systems.

Abebe Belay has published three books and several peer-reviewed journal articles related to the spectroscopy of major biochemical compounds in coffee beans. He has extensive teaching experience and currently serves as a Lecturer and Director of the Knowledge and Technology Interchange Unit at Adama University.
