The role of banks in the financial system of any economy is significant for the growth and development. Banking reforms is the part of economic reforms which initiated in 1991-92. The main objective behind banking reforms is to promote a diversified, efficient, and competitive financial system with the ultimate objective of improving the allocative efficiency of resources through operational flexibility, improved financial viability and institutional strengthening. Reforms bring out so many changes in Indian banking industry like deregulation of interest rate structure, financial liberalization and introduction of prudential norms. To achieve the objective of globalization, foreign banks are allowed to enter in to India.
