Friches Industriais Pelotenses, Know to Preserve

This paper presents the research that was developed during the Specialization in Arts course, specializing in Cultural Heritage, at the Federal University of Pelotas, with the main objectives of Knowing to Preserve the Industrial Heritage of Pelotas, through the case study of Laneira Brasileira S.A., a former wool mill that was acquired by the Federal University of Pelotas in 2010. The work was structured in two chapters, each with two subchapters. The first, entitled Understanding, was divided into Understanding Industrial Heritage and Laneira Brasileira S.A., and was based on bibliographic, documentary, and oral research. The second, entitled Preserving, was divided into preserving through a Management Proposal and an Intervention Proposal, the first dealing with legal guidelines for both the city's industrial heritage as a whole and the specific case of Laneira, and the second dealing with technical guidelines for interventions on these assets, based on the recommendations of the Nizhny Tagil Charter, the restoration theorists BRANDI and RIEGL, and CHAGAS' concept of the "house-museum."
