From David to Solomon, A Study of Throne Succession DIsputes

Political systems are essential fabrics of societies and they play significant roles in the survival and continuity of societies. Important to every political system is the transfer of power or the question of succession. Succession to high offices has always proved a challenge to many societies, causing great havoc and ultimately undermining the importance of the office. Ancient Israel like many societies did struggle with this universal problem. The story of Solomon's ascension to the David throne epitomizes the struggles of ancient Israel in handling the issue of the transfer of power. The book invetigates this phenomenon by examining the multiple factors that were at play during the ascension of Solomon to the Davidic throne. The study uses the biblical story to draw attention to the increasing succession problems in African societies.

Kojo Okyere pursued his Bachelor in University of Cape Coast, where he majored in Religious Studies.He currently holds a masters in the area of biblical studies (Old Testament) and he is pursuing a PHD programme in Old Testament studies. His research areas include, Wisdom Literature and the Deuteronomistic History.
