From Four Supports to Eight Supports
Details
The mosques, the places of worship for the followers of Islam, are perhaps the most glorious masterpieces of the Islamic architecture. Throughout the history, architects have dealt with many factors to design and build the most prestigious examples of the mosques. Symbolic expressions, regional expectations, local construction possibilities and techniques have leaded these designers to build in many different styles. One of these most notable styles is the central-dome mosques of Anatolia, of which Ottoman architect and civil engineer Sinan is well known with. When Sinan's mosque examples are studied, it can easily be sensed that Sinan has endlessly tried to improve the interior space formation by changing and developing the structural construct of the central-dome. In this book it is aimed to analyze Sinan's central-dome plan scheme development with several widely accepted spatial analysis methods, which focus on the different properties of an architectural space, to obtain objective results.
