Details

In this rare example of praxis, Juli Parker, Ph.D., a
budding scholar/artist in feminist theatre shares her
original play, Liberating Women, followed by an
analytical critique. The play examines the current
antagonism to feminist reproductive rights activism
in the United States, specifically focusing on the
legality of abortion. Female superheroes save women
from the actions of extremist politicians and their
secrete underground forces in an all too familiar
parody of the Bush administration. The accompanying
analysis is designed to offer a theoretical and
personal context for the creative work, to define
feminist theatre and a brief history of it, while
examining feminist theatre''s potential for social and
pedagogical change. Parker assesses the impact of
theatre as a method of social change, playing her own
roles as playwright, producer, director and scholar.
