From Righteous to Roguish

This study examines the articulation of female sexuality in the works of seven black women writers from the late nineteenth century through the Harlem Renaissance. It addresses a critical silence regarding the history of black women s sexual expression. In this exploration, Wheeler introduces the reader to a mere few examples of the much broader and always fugitive cultural story. It is the author''s hope that this story will become more detailed, and necessarily more complicated, as it continues to evolve.
