From Siang to Brahmaputra: The Misings of North East India
Details
'From Siang to Brahmaputra: The Misings of North East India' is a cursory glance at the socio-cultural life of the Misings of North East India and their their story of migration from the Siang to the Brahmaputra. The book purports to describe the basic structure of the social system and the cultural practices of the Misings of North East India. Alongside that,it takes under its purview the history of their migration over the years that covers a time span of more than five hundred years and a distance of around five hundred miles across tall mountains, deep gorges, and dangerously swift rivers gathered from interesting folk tales and folklore popular within the community. So the book serves two purposes mainly at the same time: a synchronic study of the contemporary state of the Misings in relation to their religion, dress, food habits, education and other important cultural practices and a diachronic study of the basic cultural changes coinciding with their migration gleaned purely from their oral history.
