Fundamentals of Horticulture

Horticulture crop production has been expanding worldwide. Asian countries like China and India have emerged as the global leader countries in fruit and vegetable production with share of 34 percent and 10 percent. India occupies the first position in production of many fruit like mango, banana, pomegranate, sapota and aonla and the second position in production of vegetable like brinjal,cabbage,cauliflower, peas,onion and tomato etc. on the other hand, India is the largest producer, consumer and exporter of spices and spice products in the world and produces more than 50 percent. In plantation crops also coconut, tea, coffee and cashew assume greater importance. In floriculture, India has been making rapid strides in the last two decades. This text book will be useful to the students of agriculture/horticulture.

A. Mahadevan, born at Thimmalai, Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu, India. He received his undergraduate degree in Horticulture (2003-2007) from HC&RI, Periyakulam. Post graduate degree in Horticulture in Fruit Science (2007-2009).Ph.D(Horticulture) in Fruit Science at TNAU, Coimbatore. Currently is an Assistant Professor in PGPCAS, Namakkal.
