He played in his early years in Vicenza Calcio, the team of his province. He played regularly since 1991 won Serie A promotion in 1995. He conquered two promotion and in 1995 he passed to AS Roma. He also played in Cagliari, Bologna, Ternana and Perugia Calcio and in 2000 he came back to Vicenza. He has played more matches than any other goalkeeper in Vicenza's history, currently standing at 285. Only three players in the history of Vicenza have played in more games than Sterchele.
