Global Energy Governance

The politics of Energy Governance is global in nature as the economies of various states in the north & south are inextricably intertwined and interdependent. The global community of states is bound to cooperate on energy matters to guarantee the energy security of individual states as energy producers-exporters, importers-consumers, producers-importers and transit countries. The increasing interdependence of states for energy security; sale, transit and imports, tend to breed tensions in energy diplomacy. The effective management of such tensions necessitate global cooperation in order to ensure effective Global Energy Governance. Global Energy Governance oversees cooperation between states on energy production, transportation, transit, trade and the settlement of energy disputes. Global Energy Governance is therefore an instrument to drive the geopolitics of energy and to enhance global cooperation on energy matters. Thus in this book, I analyze Global Energy Governance, exploring the notion, initiatives, institutions and challenges.

Alobwede J. Ngome is a reader in Energy Security & Energy Governance. He is Associate Researcher with Faculty of Economics & Political Science at the VUB in Brussels.
