Glowing in the Dark
Details
During my two-year stay in a rural village in western Kenya, I felt as if I were glowing in the dark . I stood out like a sore thumb among the villagers, many of whom had never seen a white person. Though I would never fit in to the village in the way I hoped, I would take with me lessons that would shape my life. These lessons would solidify my dream of becoming a teacher and educating children about the many cultures that make up our world. This autobiographical work covers two years and three months in my life as a Peace Corps Volunteer. These three narratives are about lessons taught and learned in my classroom and in the village of Malimili, Kenya. Each narrative is followed by a lesson plan and an annotated bibliography of other works that contributed to this compilation. Each narrative tells a separate story. Each story is made up of the pure wisdom and courage of children.
