Details
Glycerol, a main product of yeast metabolism, is a key compound in the regulation of several metabolic pathways. So, a better understanding of glycerol movements across cell membranes as well as its metabolism can help to unravel many cell homeostasis mechanisms. Additionally, it can contribute to the improvement of biotechnological processes, as glycerol properties make it useful in numerous industrial, therapeutic and diagnostic applications. This book presents a review of these issues, and studies that using yeasts as eukaryotic model organisms aimed to contribute to some extent to a better understanding of glycerol transport and metabolism. This knowledge should be especially useful to researchers and professionals interested in industrial, agricultural, medical or others putative applications for glycerol.
