Today many people participate in oaths either in the Church or in government offices without knowing the implication of the oath. This study looks at the question of the origins of African oaths. Emphasis has been laid on the relationship between African oaths and the oaths that were there among the Africans before fighting for independence in Africa.A major concern of this study is to answer various questions that can be raised with reference to African oaths in general and to the religious elements in the oaths in particular. Of particular importance is a description of the nature and content of African oath ceremonies, with particular emphasis on the nature of the rituals and symbols contained in the oath ceremonies. An attempt is also made in this study to assess the role played by the oaths towards the development of African nationalism. The book is written in simple clear precise and easy language. It is long enough to cover the essentias and short enough to arouse the curiousity. It is good suppliment to all who are dealing with oaths as lawyers or in government offices. It can be used by colleges and university students and lecturers in the study of sociology and athropology
