The present work offered to the attention of the reader is devoted to the issues concerning the causes of desertification. The role of dusty atmosphere in the sharp limitation of sediment formation in deserts is noted, the ways of preventing desertification by the development of irrigated agriculture and desert phytomelioration, the saving of irrigation water for the development of new lands for agricultural production, the possibilities of growing vegetable crops and cotton without irrigation in areas with precipitation of 100-200 mm / year and volatility of more than 1000 mm / year.
